Canberra’s Best Coffee

It’s always good to have a little local knowledge when you’re visiting a new city, especially when it comes to finding where to stop for a great coffee.  Here is a list to get you started when visiting our nation’s capital;

  1. The Cupping Room, 1/1-13 University Avenue, Canberra

It’s not every day that your coffee will be made by a world champion barista, but here, that’s exactly what you’ll get.  Saša Šestić, co-owner of this concept café is quite literally one of the world’s best and coupled with award-winning Australian coffee company, Ona Coffee, you can’t go wrong.  There are a range of blends on offer, all sustainably produced, and if you’re really serious about your coffee you can join an educational cupping session!

  1. Thirty8 Espresso, 4/2 Trevillian Quay, Kingston Foreshore, Canberra

This little espresso bar is serious about their coffee and yes, they serve oat milk too.  On those chilly Canberra mornings, there’s nothing better than a hot coffee and fresh muffin.  Their cold brew isn’t bad either and if you have time to sit back and enjoy it by the foreshore, we highly recommend it.  If you’re cycling with little ones, don’t go past the babyccino!

  1. Coffee Lab, Canberra Centre, 26 Narellan Place, Canberra

Part café, part lab, this place is exactly that.  The Coffee Lab team explore the coffee-making process from bean to brew, by trialling and testing to offer an ever-changing range of coffees.  Open from 7am until 3:30pm, the coffee lab also offers an extensive menu and while we know this is all about coffee, we have to tell you about their ricotta pancakes with salted caramel popcorn, smashed meringue and toasted coconut.  You will not be sorry!

  1. Local Press Café, 71 Giles Street, Kingston Foreshore, Canberra

Local Press Café is a wholefoods based café committed to producing and providing fresh, natural, foods, coffee and cold pressed juices. Local Press Cafe is family owned and operated which came to be through a common passion for cooking, healthy living and clean eating.   Local cyclists are a fan of their coffee and tea options.

  1. Kyo Coffee Project, G05/27 Lonsdale Street, Braddon, Canberra

Café owner, Michael Phelan, takes his coffee seriously and is always experimenting to provide new and innovative options.  He sources his beans from Sydney and roasts and blends them himself to offer batch and pour-over brews as well as milk coffees.  The locals equally love the food menu, including Asian-inspired bites like udon noodles and kimchi toasties alongside classics like bacon and egg rolls.
